RITTER drum-type (wet test) gas meters can be universally applied to measure the quantity of flowing gas and are particularly effective when the highest precision is required for measurement.
Gas meter materials can be selected from five excellent materials: polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), PE-el (electrically conductive polyethylene), or refined stainless steel 1.4571 (316Ti). Measurement requirements can be individually met even for highly aggressive gases.
For robust industrial applications, durable models with stainless steel casings and plastic drums (in four different materials) are available.
The desired measurement range can be selected from eight sizes (types) ranging from 1 Ltr/h to 18,000 Ltr/h overall, at gas temperatures ranging from -10 °C to +80 °C.
The robustly constructed standard meter casing is designed to withstand a maximum overpressure of 50 mbar (plastic casing) or 500 mbar (stainless steel casing). Meters for higher pressure ranges up to 40 bar are available.
The measurement of RITTER drum-type gas meters operates on the displacement principle. The gas meter contains a measurement mechanism (measurement drum) that rotates within a packing liquid (usually: water or low-viscosity oil).
The measurement drum forcibly measures volume by periodically filling and emptying four rigid measurement chambers.
Through meticulous production methods and calibration, a measurement accuracy of ±0.2% at standard flow rate and approximately ±0.5% across the entire measurement range is provided.
The main advantage and superiority of volumetric gas meters (e.g., drum-type gas meters) compared to other measurement principles that determine gas volume using secondary measurable variables such as velocity, heat capacity, and hot wire resistance is the following direct measurement: volume.
This means that the state and composition of the gas do not affect measurement accuracy.
Therefore, correction factors considering gas type, temperature, humidity, etc. are not required.
For other non-volumetric measurements, it should be noted that the accuracy provided for that measurement can only be achieved when the correction factors for the actual gas state or gas mixture are precisely known.

This means that the state and composition of the gas do not affect measurement accuracy.
Correction factors considering gas type, temperature, humidity, etc. are not required. For other non-volumetric measurements, it should be noted that the accuracy provided for that measurement can only be achieved when the correction factors for the actual gas state or gas mixture are precisely known. Drum-type meters do not require maintenance or power supply (unless the optional »Pulse Generator« is installed).

1. Casing and Measurement Drum Made of Excellent Plastics
RITTER drum-type gas meters are specifically designed for use with corrosive gases. This product is made from a selection of four excellent plastics (PVC, PP, PVDF, and electrically conductive PE). Therefore, you can select a gas meter that is fully resistant to the corrosive gas being measured.
Stainless steel is not fully resistant to corrosive gases and can be damaged over time. Even RITTER gas meters with stainless steel casings have measurement drums made from one of these high-quality thermoplastics. This is because the measurement drum is the most important part of the gas meter and the part most susceptible to the effects of corrosive gases.
2. The Measurement Drum is Welded.
Competitor meters have stainless steel casings and measurement drums made of stainless steel. Because the steel sheets used to make these measurement drums must be very thin, only soft soldering is possible. Soft solder welding is very easily corroded by aggressive gases!
Therefore, even if stainless steel itself is quite resistant to corrosive gases, soft soldering is not. As a result, if the soft soldering corrodes, the measurement drum can completely fall off.
The measurement drum components of RITTER gas meters are welded together using exactly the same material as the material that constitutes the drum. PVC drums are welded with PVC rods. PP drums with PP rods, PVDF drums with PVDF rods, and PE drums with PE rods. Therefore, the welds of RITTER gas meters are as corrosion-resistant as the material used to construct the drum.
3. Casing and Measurement Drum Resistant to Packing Liquid – In Case It Turns Into Acid
All drum-type gas meters contain a packing liquid (usually water). If the measurement drum is stainless steel and is used to measure gases that react with water to form an acidic solution, the acidic solution can corrode the part of the measurement drum below the waterline. This occurs most quickly in gas meters that are not frequently used. RITTER gas meters do not have this problem.
4. Measurement Drums Do Not Require Epoxy Coating.
Some gas meter manufacturers provide stainless steel measurement drums with epoxy coating. It is very difficult to apply the coating completely uniformly to the drum surface, particularly to the sharp edges of the drum (soft solder weld areas). These are weak points where corrosive gases can more easily attack and begin to destroy the drum material and soft solder welds.
