DVS Adventure

DVS Adventure

H₂O Water Sorption Analysis Instrument (DVS Adventure)

The DVS Adventure is a high-precision water vapor sorption analyzer designed to accurately measure the sorption and desorption properties of a wide range of solid samples.

What is DVS Adventure?

The DVS Adventure is a precision water vapor sorption analyzer (Dynamic Vapor Sorption Analyzer) developed by Surface Measurement Systems (SMS) — an advanced instrument designed to accurately measure and analyze the moisture sorption and desorption behavior of solid samples.

By measuring sample mass changes in real time, the DVS Adventure enables quantitative evaluation of interactions with moisture. In particular, the DVS Adventure is equipped with True 0 RH technology, allowing relative humidity to be reduced to 0.0% RH.

This capability enables the analysis of sorption and desorption behavior under ultra-low humidity conditions that were previously difficult to observe with conventional instruments.

With flexible configuration options for a wide range of experimental conditions and accessories, the DVS Adventure enables quantitative analysis of hygroscopicity, stability, and structural changes in diverse materials — including pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, and battery materials.

Applications

Pharmaceuticals — Drug hygroscopicity, hydrate analysis, and stability evaluation Battery Materials — Moisture sensitivity analysis of electrodes and electrolytes Food / Cosmetics — Shelf-life preservation, sorption stability, and water activity measurement Polymers / Films — Moisture permeability and moisture resistance evaluation Construction / Wood — Sorption characterization of porous materials Environment / Energy — Moisture behavior studies of catalysts and sorbents

Key Features

  • True0™ RH Technology — Achieves 0.0% relative humidity, enabling complete drying analysis of hydrates and sensitive samples
  • Ultra-Precision Mass Measurement (UltraBalance™) — 0.1 µg resolution, capturing even trace-level sorption and desorption responses with accuracy
  • Precise Mass Measurement — The patented UltraBalance system detects minute sample mass changes in real time, enabling accurate analysis of sorption characteristics
  • Modular Expandability — Compatible with a wide range of options including IR and Raman spectrometers, and high-resolution microscope cameras
  • Diverse Sample Support — Analyzes solid samples in various forms, including powders, tablets, films, and fibers
  • Automated Experimental Programming — User-friendly software enables efficient repeat experiments and streamlined data analysis

What Are the Advantages

of DVS Adventure?

01

24-Hour Long-Term Stability

The DVS Adventure represents the culmination of 25 years of SMS expertise in water vapor generation technology. It delivers the highest level of humidity precision of any instrument ever produced, achieving humidity control within ±0.1% RH of the target value — and accurately reproducing down to 0.0% RH through True0™ RH technology.

02

Humidity Performance

The DVS Adventure can measure mass changes with 0.1 µg resolution, with peak-to-peak noise below 0.2 µg. Surface Measurement Systems' UltraBalance™ is unrivaled in terms of precision and accuracy.

03

Advanced Temperature Performance

The DVS Adventure features a highly stable single-zone temperature enclosure that surrounds the entire instrument, ensuring that vapor generation and delivery take place at sample temperature across the full operating range of 5–85 °C. Typical stability at 25 °C is ±0.02 °C. This design eliminates condensation issues that can occur in multi-zone temperature configurations, enabling more accurate and reliable humidity delivery.

04

TrueO™-RH

Surface Measurement Systems' DVS gravimetric sorption analyzers are the only instruments offering True0™ technology. The DVS series can precisely generate partial pressures of water vapor down to 0.0% RH, enabling analysis of hydrates and specific compounds that only fully dehydrate below 1% RH. This capability allows the study of sorption and desorption behavior under ultra-low humidity conditions. By realizing the ultra-precision drying environments that conventional instruments could not achieve, True0™ RH delivers highly reliable research results.
